Item 74 — Ode to Jason, picture 1 of 1
The only picture of this piece
The words on this page
This is a story about a boy who's dog ran away,
While during a snow storm he went out to play.
The dog made it home but the boy became lost,
He set out to find a loved one, no matter what the cost.
When you're a fourth grader finding a dog is no easy task,
Should you risk your life for a pet? It depends on who you ask.
The fact that Jason said yes should come as no surprise,
He loved that dog to pieces you could see it in his eyes.
Little Jason was a hero so he set out through the snow,
It saddens my heart deeply to tell his tale of woe.
What a brave little soul right up until the end,
What a brave little soul to go search for his friend.
A bit of inspiration is what he left behind,
He listened to his heart, paid no attention to his mind.
And when he left our world with the situation oh so grim,
The last thought that filled his head is that the dog would do the same for him.
The saddest of it all, the reason why we cried,
If not for the heart of an angel he never would have died.
When you think of him in memory try to wipe away the tears,
Remember what he was wise beyond his years.

He loved her like I loved you
Only he would do what I couldn't do
Though she was far away she was in his heart
with love so strong the sea would part
chorus He is the man to whom I kneel
They were the two who's fate was sealed
wedding rings, souls bound so tight
Nothings wrong when the love is right
The young lady, I knew her well
But some peoples' heaven is another's hell
They were the two with hearts so entwined
But I still remember the day she used to be mine.
From jealousy and hatred I should be free
Yet I find myself thinking Howd she do this to me?
The day she left I knew she was right
So unexpected we didn't even fight
chorus He is the man to whom I kneel
They were the two who's fate was sealed
wedding rings, souls bound so tight
They're in love so it must be right
I will recover, it'll take some time
If you'll be my lover then I'll be fine
I set out searching for love that true
If my eyes don't deceive me I've found it in you
Take a chance to set me free
Erase my bleeding memory
Don't let me think he is better than me
Bring out a part of me that I dont see
When you said yes that part of me died
Now I've got nothing but love inside

The words on this page
Looks like tonight I won't be sleeping
But at least I'll still be dreaming
Maybe this time I won't be left weeping
For now I'll simply enjoy this feeling

Falling in love
All over again
[scribbled out text] Learning from all the mistakes
The mistakes I made in the past

Falling in love
All over gain
With the strangest feeling
That this time it could last

When I was young
I learned to walk
Only to learn how to crawl

When I was young
I learned to stand
Only to learn how to fall

And now that I've grown
I now know how to play the game
To win in the end
And now that I've grown
I become tamed -
I don't break but I bend

The words on this page
WALKING ALONE

Alone in the crowd
My solitary parade
Shame holds my hand
Surrounding faces start to fade
We walk in unison
Chained by despair
Footstep after footstep
Going nowhere
Never asking directions
At least out loud
We just keep walking
Blending back in the crowd
We fade into the darkness
Of self-induced pain
Finding our way
By tapping our cane
After wandering for hours
while searching for our guide
I decided to close my eyes
And look deep down inside
With severed handcuffs left behind
I may now travel all alone
For I found the errors of my ways
In thinking that walking with shame
Was better than walking alone

---

Reincarnation
Legs spread wide open
muscle contractions push me right out the door
Soaking wet and thrown into a cold world
Ready to start a new tour
Groggy and crying
My eyes start to open
With my senses beginning to soar
I can't quite place it
Nor track or trace it
But something tells me I've been here before
There's no heaven or hell
As far as I can tell
Only new shapes and sizes
These different disguises
I've been a rich man, a poor man
A black man, a woman
A cat, a flea
A dog, a tree
All over the world
And every century
I've faught to supress
And I've faught to free

---

If I was a carpenter and you were a lady
What the hell?
I am a carpenter and you are a
bitch!
I build the caskets and you
dig the ditch
I lay 'em up and you lay 'em
down
Now ain't that a switch
Last one in line is the last in the
ground

I make my own gods and
worship my own idols
But at least I don't try
to pawn them off on you
Don't go knocking on doors
with my bible in hand
No bumper stickers about
Jesus - you know it's true
I worship my ears when
you talk on
I worship the ground that
you walk on
I worship your long blonde
hair
And your eyes so blue

---

I'm in love w/ myself
what about you?
Do you love me too?
Are you in love w/ yourself?
What about you?
Do you love me too?

The smell of beer fills the air
Better leave how while the coast is clear
Wasted lives try to capture the past
But little they know the shadow's been cast
As Another drink fills their glass
they wonder which road was the one that they passed
The road that would have led them out of this place
The road that maybe would have put a smile on their face
Deep down the know there are roads up ahead
And if they miss their next turn
Then they're better off dead

I started drinking to drown my sorrows
I gave it up when trouble learned to swim
I treaded water for so long
I didn't know how deep I was in
I tried the dead man's float
When I lost all hope
But when I didn't sink
I was beginning to think
Maybe I shouldn't swim any more
But in the middle of this dream
The currents floated me down stream
And soon I landed on the shore

The words on this page
It's time to wake up
Awake from out of your spell
Can you smell that there's something in the air
So familiar that I know it all too well

One must be careful
Of the company they keep
For you do not know what your mattress does
While you are asleep

There's a lobbyist sleeping in the lobby
Because they moved the capitol up to the hill
He's dreaming of his new hobby
He looks like he's dreaming still

The man which the lobbyist selected
His ego is inflated but he doesn't care
Has anyone noticed that the president we elected
His head is filled with graying hairs

The dam next to where we live
Has suddenly sprung a leak
It's leaking like a siv
So it seems that the future looks bleek

Old men who've already
Lived a lifetime
Still think they get better with age
But sour grapes do not make a fine wine

---

Our grandfathers are all CEO's
While grand children watch music videos
Losing touch with reality
Both the past and the future are scaring me
{struck: Either you have too}

Either you have too much
Or too little gained
Ain't nothing changed
It's the same old problems again

It's time to wake up
Can you smell something in the air
As I went to ask my father
I saw he wasn't there

It seems that daddy works seven days a week
Even though us kids have plenty to eat
Mommy teaches us and cooks and cleans
And tells us to be nice when we are mean

When daddy comes home we're all asleep

The words on this page
I only free my mind when it's closing time
I only find my way home when I am truley alone
The only doors I open are the ones that won't slam shut
The only truth I have yet to learn is that enough's enough
I always find myself moving but it's not always up
The only piece of mind I find is lying on the floor
No this is not another fiction and yeah that's
quite far from a fable
I'm simply biding my time
For as long as I am able
But don't get me wrong
I'd never sell myself short
I could {struck: pass as a saint} pound on my gavel
{struck: When I have to go to court} If the world was
a court
In another time on another day
Things might not have been this way
But when I woke up and put on my shoes
I came to the conclusion that everybody pays their dues
Just what device measures wasted time
Tell me who made the ladders we're supposed to climb

Burning the candle at both ends
Usually causes a fire
I've told this to many a friends
And no one's ever called me a liar

Life is so preciously short
That there's no time to waste
With so many piles of things to sort
They'll just get higher with haste

Slow and steady wins the race
In the end you'll realize your fate
If you plan your steps you can slow your pace
The best things come to those who wait

Whatever you do
You better make sure it counts
It's good to go down swinging
When life strikes you out
Don't get caught in the duggout
Pull out splinters from who knows where
You gotta play every day
If you hope to go a tear

Not suitable for children
A life based on the movies
Another 9 oclock special
Not suitable for children
May be violent, deadly, and racial
Actions aimed at immitation
Famous for a day when you make the news
Judge finds charges for premeditation
The cops looked down and found so many clues
The value of the media
Is only found by those digging for gold
Every night we're becoming decensored
Every story has been told
Nothing left for imagination
No thought left too cold
Every week a new sensation
No thought left too bold

Here I sit by the side of the ocean
wondering just what the ocean sees in me
Sometimes I wonder if I should go swimming
If in this game I'm playing I'm winning
And if when the man in the moon looks down
he's really grinning
And if there's a god does he know when
I'm sinning
And if there's a god did he know
that this is how my world would be
I AM AWAKENED from my sleep
By the sound of someone's scream
Grab my bat, someone's in trouble deep
Longing to return to my dream

We know the search is never easy
As you've found the bottom of your drink
though when your soul feels uneasy
Sometimes it makes you think

Would we be better
If we never considered ourselves brothers
Would our world be different
Had we never met each other

When in need of advice
Each other we seek
Yet the same hell goes on
Every week to week

Same old brand new day...
Same old story
We keep seeing ourselves
But the scenery gets boring

One hand washes the other
But the same goes when you're in the dirt
When all is said and gone you're still my brother
Even though we're the only ones getting hurt

---

(4)
We've both seen the worst that can happen
Even through what seemingly was the best of times
Celebrated many of nights
Written many a rhymes

It may in fact be hip to be square
Unfortunately the circle keeps its shape
We still got some years
But just how long will it take?

We never want to give up
On a family member taken in
But the question pops up
When you're surrounded by sin

False Gods I have never preached
By some higher power up there I truly beseech
Come to the aid of a couple fellows out of reach
Who's life's goal is goodness to teach

Giving to the takers
Take nothing from those who give
Do it long enough
You'll find your way to the bridge

Me & Frankie 1

We've been best friends for years
And said all we can say
Figured we be at each's side
When it comes down to judgement day

We've had mud at our feet
And dirt in our eyes
But we've never even been once
Taken by surprise

We grabbed the world by the neck
Yet our fate still lies
As there is no me and you
In a world full of I's

Both one in the same
Even our circle of friends
Though neither places blame
When it comes down to the end

We know we been through the grinder
While we've been diving for pearls
Some day we'll each find her
That one special girl

She came to me late one night
As a damsel in distress
I'm always the type to lend a helping hand
I surely will confess
I spotted her near the bottom of my driveway
Hiding behind my crumbling stone wall
I wasn't sure if she was okay
So to her I softly called
Because of the bag she held
I noticed that her small hands trembled
Because of the confusion in her eyes
I noticed that an infant child she resembled

underemphasized, your marketing team may choose to forgo some short-term profits while building the division for future higher payoffs. (However, don't forget the simulation does have a specified period of time to run.) Teams should not manage the firm only for the short term and "end play" the simulation to maximize profits at the end of play. This would not be operating the division in the best interest of the parent firm and the stockholders. In other words, at the end of the simulation, the parent firm (represented by your instructor), will be expecting to evaluate a "healthy, going concern." Other important objectives that the instructor (or teams) may want to establish include:

1. Implementation of marketing strategies that capture a maximum (or optimum) market share.
2. Management of operations in a cost-effective manner.
3. Observation of good business ethics and standards that will increase the value of corporate goodwill.
4. Maintenance of reasonable inventories.
5. Accumulation of knowledge about certain marketing mix relationships through experimentation and good market research practices.

Transforming Your Group into a Team

There is a big difference between a group and a team. A group is a cluster of people whereas a team is a group that has been organized to get a job done. For a group to become a team, the members must have a high degree of trust, mutual respect for ideas, open communication, equal participation, and constructive confrontational skills. As you might imagine, a team does not automatically form from a group - it takes a lot of hard work on the part of the group members and they have to WANT to succeed as a team.

This process is not easy. The dynamics of a group becoming a team include four phases:
1. Forming - awareness and acceptance of others
2. Storming - conflict concerning leadership and style of decision making
3. Norming - cooperation results from involvement and support
4. Performing - achievement of the desired productivity

In order for your team to be successful in the simulation, you need to build a high degree of trust and cooperation. It will be good practice since many firms are becoming more participative in management style. Since it is unfair for any team member to not do his or her fair share, and it is unfair for any team member to monopolize the decision making, the manual has peer evaluation forms in it, and your instructor will likely ask you to evaluate each team member.

We've lost power
[crossed out text] here in New York City
People say it's pitch black along the whole East Coast
a woman cried out I [?] is the skyline - it's so pretty
She says I've been walking around here feeling like a ghost
I heard a man say the gin mill's closed
And He [crossed out: said] just kept walking down the road with no place to go
As I SAT on the sidewalk this little kid came
So Angry at the world 'cause he couldn't play video games

We've lost power
[crossed out text] here in New York City
People say it's pitch black along the whole East Coast
I heard a young thug swearing 'cause he could listen to P. Diddy
It seems nothing happened when he turned on his radio
An elderly woman complained that she couldn't get the weather
I told her if it's hot then sleep in the nude
And If youget cold then put on a sweater
She must have thought I was either sick or rude
I gave her good advice but I wish I never met her

---

{struck: shitty}
witty pity

We've lost power here in New York City
People say it's pitch black along the whole east coast
There was a sad old vet I met and I asked him
"What's troubling you?"
He answered there's no money in the hitty sincet
they closed the VFW
A young girl passed by and I asked here where [?]
she's from, but she was too busy making a call
I overheard that she needed her nails done
and she was so disappointed she couldn't go to
the mall

We've lost power here in New York city
People say it's pitch black along the whole east coast
A drunk stumbled over saying he was
going for a black out during a black out
Then he began to boast how he was so witty
Soon a homeless man came to ask me for a
cigarette
Saying he had proof this was all a plot
by the government
I said as a joke that maybe Bush was
trying to save oil
When he lit up a smoke I saw his pants
were soiled

---

We've lost power here in New York City
People say it's pitch black along the whole East Coast
A kid my age stopped and asked me
what's going on?
He asked me if I get stoned as he pulled out
his bong
I told him NO, not any more
He said he needed wraps but he couldn't
go to the store
He said he was smoking cause there was
nothing to do
As I rested my arm on the post I
[crossed out text] said
Oh what a pity
When he saw my flash light turn on he asked
me what I was doing?
I answered him that I was writing a song

You know that I write about what I been through
You know that I'm right about what I hold true
You know the answer to why I'm here
You know the answer to why I'm leaving
You know that some memories will never disappear
You know that you brought me nothing but love and cheer
And I brought you closer to yourself and so I guess now were even
Just so sad that the changing of the season came so fast this year my dear
Sometimes everybody needs to plant a little seed
Seek the safety of a flower in this world of weeds
{struck: Something to give you power}
Sometimes everybody needs a little bit of relief
Something to give you the power to turn your words to deeds
And to set your mind at ease
Even if it's only an hour
It's that every hour we must seize

I just go about life trying to do my part
Don't believe in stealing, lying or breaking hearts
I've learned that there's no excuse in denying
Some souls filled with a fire and just need the spark
No one's ever called me a liar and lived to talk
I try higher to aspire and I walk the walk
and talk the talk
and Don't be shocked
when I walk on water
to save a father's daughter

Hey... I got tired
of waiting for a
leader [crossed out text]

---

If I was weather I'd be rain
Because I'm always falling down
If I was God I'd be the holy spirit
Because I speak my words without a sound
If I was an emotion I'd be pain
Because it's what I've known through most of my life
If I had to pick a status I'd be [crossed out] single forever
Because a life such as mine leaves no time for a wife
If I was a color
It would green with envy
If I was a war
I'd be [crossed out: my own] [crossed out] worst enemy
If I was a bird
I'd be a raven black as night
If I was beneviolent
I'd still find some way to fight
If I was a wine
Then I'd get better with age
If I was a novel
I'd be blank on every page
If I was liquor I'd be 150 proof
Because I gairented to rearrange your mind
If I was a treasure
I'd be hidden. So well no one would ever find
If I was a season I'd be winter
Just like this world so cruel and cold
If I was metal I'd be iron
Strong as hell forget glittering like gold
If I was a day
It would be Martin Luther King
If I was a song
Noone would know what words to sing
If I was some one else
Id never know of being me
If I wasn't a slave
Then freedom would mean something to me

The words on this page
MY OWN WORLD
My thoughts are flashing like
Bright neon sighs
Separating as if day and night
Both what I want and what is mine

Just the way of the times
Knowledge held in decline
Impulses are in full control
But Holding right above wrong
Is considered being old
Extremes rule My universe
Satan coming back
Is just as worse

(My heart is beating far too fast
My love is for a false prophet
I aimed for first but I finished last
I'm hooked on getting off it)

The words on this page
For I've been searching for myself
Some times, some things
Can not be left to someone else [?]
I've been searching for myself [?]
Yet there are things which we cannot control
I'm still young my heart [?] my experience
[?] all about [?] It's only that's getting old
Sometimes you need a fresh start
When the weather gets cold
And the weather's been cold for quite
Some time
So i've made up my mind
Crossing things off my list one at a time
Here's a check just tell me where to sign

walking in Dublin
Eating shamrocks As I walk on
RIGHT INTO A BAR
But they call it a pub
Using Guiness as my desert
And potatoes as my grub
Met a gentle man named McRonald
who was eating french fries
Met a woman named Fiona
who spoke of St. Patrick
But only told me lies
